Often, I am asked why I write. It is a form of release, a form of comfort, a form of observation of the world I live in. I publish my writing for posterity, for the future generation that is my family and as the occasional muse on other peoples’ bookshelves who show an interest in my poetry. This collection explores ideas around self, about identity, about recognition, about reasons for writing, asking questions about purpose in this life. Someone, a while ago asked of me what was my purpose and I replied “exactly”. I wasn’t being facetious or cryptic when I answered that question. Hopefully my writing will do the trick as they say.

I loved “Unacclaimed”. Very powerful imagery throughout. A beautifully written piece in particular that resonated with me, “Slatch” which tells how strong feelings fade away, leaving memories behind. The poem vividly describes a bright flame becoming ashes, like things changing over time. It talks about how memories stick around, like dust in the wind. It’s a thoughtful look at how feelings come and go, but memories stay with us.
