This is a must-read. It is very whip smart, laugh-out-loud, and genuinely insightful. It is a day in the life of Sam. A woman whose life is far smaller than she had planned for because of circumstances and the people around her. She is both resigned to her fate and rails against it. It is my book of the year so far.
Miss Rachie B –
What fun! A day-in-the-life page turner with sass & spice, and not too much nice. A perfect weekend or holiday read which had me laughing out loud in moments and reflecting on the consequences of life choices in others. Sometime outrageous, ‘What Do You Do All Day’ provides a peek into the daily grind of a reluctant stay-at-home-mum who somehow traded her corporate dreams for school runs, and has found herself dabbling in all sorts of slightly nefarious activities to keep her boredom at bay whilst maintaining an Instagram-tastic best life – if anyone bothers to look. Highly recommended.
Sam Coxhead –
This a remarkable book. The characters are intriguing. The social commentary blends superbly around the dynamic plot. It’s a very interesting walk through the trials of all caught up in this normal eventful day. Highly recommend for those looking for a contemporary New Zealand novel with depth, vigour and humour.
Finn Delany –
Super fun and engaging read, really couldn’t put it down. Written with a lot of wit, thoroughly enjoyed the character of Sam and her intense day! Would recommend to anyone!
Guy Johnson –
It’s an engaging read — thought‑provoking, well‑researched, and beautifully structured. One of those books you genuinely can’t put down — it leaves you feeling conflicted, inspired, and uneasy in equal measure (in the best possible way).

If you want an excellently written, witty, tongue-in-cheek, edgy and easy read from an Aotearoa New Zealand based author, I recommend What Do You Do All Day by W J Moloney. I loved it and will be giving a copy to my Secret Santa this year, as it makes for a great summer read that leaves you wanting more. It made me laugh, it made me think, and it’s fantastically titillating at times too!

As a working mother, I found What Do You Do All Day? both clever and refreshingly honest. Sam’s story made me laugh, but it also struck a few unexpected chords.
I thoroughly enjoyed the ride—even the parts that made me pause and reflect. It’s a great read for anyone wanting a deeper glimpse into the mental load of home life or just a bit of fun!

A wonderful romp, this slice of life novella had me laughing out loud on several occasions as we follow Sam through a day of twists and turns. I loved all the little segues and flashbacks and the references to times and places – they really resonated with me as someone of a similar age to Sam. a character who by the end of the book is something of a superhero. A great piece of social commentary and an easy read.
