This book is an attempt to depict the extraordinary period of my early life.
It encompasses the period at the end of the depression of 1927-35, during which time I was born, on 20-09-1934. This period was just prior to the 2nd world war, which commenced in 1939 and continued until 1945. The harsh reality for so many during those twenty years has left a lasting impression on a generation that will never forget. Yet in that period, so much beauty, understanding and pure enjoyment of the time, area and surroundings, we understood and appreciated.
The fact was that most people never had much money, meant that hardly anyone could afford cars. Pushbikes were the common mode of transport and the radio was a luxury.
From a time when things may have been harder but were simpler and life was really experienced instead of watched through a television screen.
