SHORT STORIES OF SURVIVAL AGAINST THE ODDS
When I was 11 years old I read an RAF handbook with the title “Elementary Flying Training”. It had diagrams, line drawings and a readable text, including emergency procedures etc. All of a sudden, I realised that flying was not a mystic magic art, but a logical procedure which could be developed as a skill. From then on I was hooked. Model aircraft became my hobby, and my ambition was to fly Vampires in the RNZAF!
I have decided to present these experiences as chapters in chronological order. The first is fairly minor, but the second had a profound long-term effect on my life. The next chapters deal with my experiences as a private pilot, tow pilot and commercial pilot. The later chapters deal with microlights, cardiac emergencies and their impact. The penultimate chapter recounts some fortunate near-misses from my Air Traffic Control days. I hope that this record will be of interest to readers and possibly provide food for thought regarding the providence of God.
