The Mair Astley Group was often commented on as very diverse with a multitude of interests but the reality was its strengths and experience were in a very narrow range—the marketing, freighting and financing of primary products. The difference between the products was not too important—they all needed to be shifted from source to a user in a timely way at the most competitive cost. Some processing or manufacturing may take place on the way through. The Group’s staff were real experts in this area.
