This book rips the lid off sixty-odd years of life in New Zealand and Australia. Like all good stories there is something in it for everyone – sex, drugs, drink, violence, a hint of debauchery, nudity, extremes of flatulence, poaching, and even a little hanky panky from one of man’s best friends.
This series of short stories is literally a cross section, encompassing an Australian childhood in the fifties and later living and working in New Zealand, hopefully capturing some of the ambience and humour of those times, when life seemed to be a much simpler affair.
Many older people use the expression ‘back in the good old days’ with great nostalgia, and I now understand what they mean.
To my deep regret I didn’t recognise my own good old days when I was having them, otherwise I would have made sure I enjoyed them a damn sight more at the time. In hindsight, I suppose I didn’t do too badly really and now it’s time to see if other people agree with me.
