The New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition 1957–1958
Fifty years on and only half the members of this, the first New Zealand Official Government Expedition to Antarctica, remain to tell the story of this trip into the unknown. This volume is based on the diary, notes and memory of the author together with the letters and accounts written by other members of the expedition.
It is dedicated to the members of the expedition and to the many good friends who helped to make it the success it was, both within the Government and outside, to the United States Navy, the Officers and Crews of the icebreakers U.S.S. Atka and the U.S.S. Glacier, the staff at the bases and the I.G.Y. members, especially to all at Hallett Base both when we arrived in 1957 and when we left in 1958.
