Miyamoto Musashi was a famous swordsman who lived in Japan from the late 15th century to approximately 1648. His first successful challenge was at the early age of 13 and during his lifetime he defeated 63 men in sword duels. Considered one of Japans National treasures, the man became a living legend from an early age. Over his lifetime he became a master of many things including writing, calligraphy, sculpting, painting, strategy, and swordsmanship. He was also the founder of the Hyoho Niten lchi-ryu or Niten-ryu style of swordsmanship and the author of The Book of Five Rings.
Our first episode about him was designed so that we could see through the eyes of a challenger to what lengths serious swordsmen would go to in order to prove that they were better than living legends such as Miyamoto Musashi. Some challengers would travel great distances to find him and that’s where we chose to create episode 1 in order to show respect to his name.
