  1. Joanna Ludbrook (Curator, Chicken and Frog Bookstore, Featherston)

Rewi the Romney is a charming story of finding the positive in being different, learning to share, and the fun of outdoor games. While parents and care givers will enjoy reading it and finding lots to point at and discuss in the illustrations, it is also a valuable addition to any school collection. Rural children can identify with the story through the lambs they care for; city children can learn rural stories. The addition of te reo Maori on each page is a bonus for learners and teachers. I highly recommend this book.

  2. Noelle McCarthy

I have a daughter aged 6 and we loved reading the story of Rewi together. She was especially keen on knowing more about the gumboot throwing in Taihape afterwards! Rewi is an original character, and the theme of learning to see the positives in being different is explored entertainingly and never overstated. We loved reading this book together, but it’s also great for young readers who can follow the story in English and Te Reo along with the charming hand-drawn pictures. A lovely, lively story that could only be from Aotearoa.

  3. John Daniell

My name is Eve and I am six and a half. My Dad is helping me write this. I liked Rewi and his gumboots and the pictures of him jumping. I could understand some of the words in Te Reo too and that was good.
