Deep in the heart of Wales, on a beautiful mountain called Pencarreg, live Sally, Clair, Meg, Julian and Kim. Each day they meet on the riverbank at the Nant, a secret valley the children call their own. They often ride their ponies through the woods and up onto Pencarreg.
One day they meet Cailo, a mystery boy staying in the tiny cottage on the mountainside. He has an extraordinary gift with horses. They respond to his gentle touch and he communicates with them in their language. The children are fascinated by Cailo and throughout the summer they have many adventures with him, as he teaches them about ponies and the wildlife around them.
As the story unfolds, Cailo reveals his secret and tells them why he’s hiding away from the rest of the world. They discover the truth about the wild ponies of Britain, and together they rescue a herd of Welsh ponies.
When Cailo finds his own horse, the children introduce him to their friends and he shares his remarkable gifts with others.
At the end of the summer on the Pony Clan Meet, they all ride to a golden beach on the west coast of Wales. It’s a fun three-day camping holiday with children and ponies racing along the beach and swimming in the sea.
Join them on an incredible adventure that most children only dream about.
