Early childhood learning experiences shape children’s attitudes to life long learning. A child who understands that they can improve with practice and persistence will be more resilient when they experience setbacks throughout their lives. When a child experiences setbacks, many types of emotions can be present, from anger and frustration to self-pity and dejectedness. Parents and caregivers want our children to be happy and often find it difficult to stand back and let these feelings unfold. But if a child is encouraged to persevere and overcomes a challenge, we can see their sense of accomplishment, their soaring confidence and the idea that they can do it when they try. It’s this attitude we want to foster in our children.
