“I often wish, when I know someone who’s had a rich and interesting life that they would write down some of the precious stories for posterity. Most don’t. Luckily, Jack Elphick has.
This book is an enjoyable journey with Jack into the English countryside when he was evacuated as a child during WWII, in his 20s hitch-hiking and sleeping out in the Australian outback, heading off to help in the struggles of the people of Central America, sailing against French nuclear tests at Moruroa and tramping through forests with a helicopter overhead while helping to end native forest logging on the West Coast.

Maureen –
This is a really amazing book. Certainly deserves five stars. I enjoyed it and read every page. Jack has certainly had a long and interesting life. He is a humble and very ordinary guy who has achieved so much and been to places we only dream about. Jack is at heart and deed the true environmentalist who deeply cares about our planet and us. When not travelling or supporting huge issues he is growing seedlings and planting trees and still rides a bike at over ninety years of age. Jack takes us through his life. He was evacuated to the English countryside during WWII, in his 20s hitch-hiked and slept out in the Australian outback. He has helped in the struggles of the people of Central America, sailed against French nuclear tests at Moruroa, helped to end native forest logging on the West Coast of New Zealand. That is just a taste there is so much more.
