An Extinguished Career

The Author Says:

Welcome to my teaching world.
It has drama: ‘Sir, sir – he’s been stabbed’– and there was a fallen student and blood to prove it. ‘You’re an agent of the devil!’ a student screamed at the teacher. The teacher checked for horns.
It has controversy: I was labelled a ‘dinosaur, a dissident and a traditionalist’ – challenging NCEA was risky. But we were ‘being sold a dog’s breakfast.’
But above all it has humour, a great deal of it: Did the male teacher who promised the women on the staff a staffroom lunch survive after serving up stale bread and water? How did dinner go when the raffle-winning teacher unwrapped his frozen chicken at home – only to find he’d won a very dead possum?
